Why do I NEED a bookkeeper?

This is something people ask and wonder all. the. time. And it’s a good question to ask. If you already have an accountant that does your returns once a year why do you need a bookkeeper as well? There are so many reasons.

  • save you time
  • save you money
  • doing the books is taking you away from your business
  • you are struggling to keep everything up to date
  • you’re not sure how to enter transactions
  • you forgot to pay something on time

The main ones being they will save you time and money, two things that are so important when running a business, no matter the size. If you’re a small sole trader there are amazing budget-friendly software packages that your bookkeeper will keep ticking over in the background for you with little to no time needed from you. If you’re a small to medium business you need someone looking after your numbers and empowering you with them so that you can run your business at the top of its game.

Using a bookkeeper keeps your records up to date and accurate, meaning there is less for you to do and even less for your Tax Accountant to do which ultimately saves you money. A good bookkeeper keeps in touch with your Tax Accountant and works with them, that way they will have everything ready. We are quicker because we know what we are doing. A great bookkeeper is worth every cent you pay. Accounting is a qualified trade, just like any other trade, we have spent a lot of time and money on learning what we do, how to do it and why. What might take you hours will only take us a fraction of that time and you know it will be done right. Would you do your electrical work yourself when it’s you are not qualified?

Make sure your bookkeeper is a registered BAS Agent. BAS Agents need to have the experience, qualifications, ongoing education, insurance and usually professional memberships to make sure you are completely looked after. The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers is one place you can search for someone in your area with particular skills or software knowledge
